Jing-Jang
Od dávných dob považovali Číňané za zdroj veškerého pohybu hmoty a životní síly stálé a rovnovážné působení záporného a kladného pólu energie,které nazývají Jin a Jang.
Prvky Jin a Jangu jsou znázorněny v čínském symbolu pro tchaj-ti:
Jin-noc Jang-den
Tento kruh(nebo vejce,jak jej také někteří vidí) symbolizuje původ života.Jang představuje zrození,neboli den,Jin znamená smrt,neoli noc.Vzhledem k tomu,že jsou tyto dvě tchaj-ti vzájemně v dokonalé rovnováze,označuje se tento symbol jako ,,nejvyšší princip všeho".
V umění,lékařství a filozofii Orientu je vše klasifikováno z hlediska vztahu těchto dvou protikladných prvků.Zachovávat harmonii a řád světa,stejně jako harmonii a řád uvnitř svého těla,znamená neustále udržovat Jin a Jang v citlivé rovnováze.Jakmile se vyrovnané působení těchto sil jakýmkoli způsobem poruší,vznikne chaos a disharmonie.Podobně jako opačné póly magnetu,Jin přitahuje Jang a odpuzuje jakýkoliv další Jin.
Aplikace principů Jin a Jang na pět prvků v horoskopu může být mnohem složitější.Například kladný pól Dřeva je jedle,záporný j pružný bambus.Pozitivní pól prvku Oheň je lesní požár,zatímco negativní pól Ohně může být plamen lampy nebo svíčky,který vydává užotečné světlo.Pozotivní pól Země je hora,negativní pól údolí.Pozitivní stránka Kovu je gong nebo zbraň,negativní hrnec na vaření nebo mince.Voda s kladným pólem znamená vlnu,se záporným stojatou vodu.
Negativní,záporný nelze chápat v pejorativním smyslu,protože v této souvislosti nepředstavuje nic špatného nebo nežádoucího.Obě síly,pozitivní(Jang) i negativní(Jin),mají své dobré i špatné stránky.Například člověk narozený za působení pozitivního prvku,bude úspěšnější,bude-li v životě postupovat aktivně.Kdyby postupoval pasivně,bylo by to pro něj škodlivé.Podobně člověk narozený za působení negativního prvku činí nejlépe,když se chová pasivně,nevýbojně.První je předurčen k tomu,aby se stal mužem činu,novátorem,druhý může vyniknout jako myslitel nebo prostředník.Všeobecně platí,že lidé s prvkem Jang jsou bezprostřední,kdežto lidé s prvkem Jin jsou více hloubaví a intuitivní.
V čínském předpovídání budoucnosti se Jin a Jang objevují střídavě se stejným prvkem v kombinaci s dvanácti znameními zvířetníku.Tak například Jang(+) je spojen s prvkem Oheň nejprve-dejme tomu v roce Myši(1936).V bezprostředně následujícím roce Buvola(1937) je však stejný prvek Oheň naopak kombinovám se silou Jin(-),aby se vyrovnalo působení síly Jang.
Proto také vidíme,že v průběhu normálního dvanáctiletého cyklu dochází jen k šesti změnám prvků,neboť každý prvek se musí objevit dvakrát-jednou jakou kladný a podruhé jako záporný.
